SPEEDLITE I:
Off-Camera Flash
Image by SPAO alum Sarah Anderson
The Speedlite, once freed from its hot shoe on the camera body, becomes an awesome lighting tool, capable of almost any studio or location lighting application. Photographers around the world have discovered its powerful applications and extreme portability.
Speedlites can be used with almost any light modifiers: umbrellas, softboxes, snoots, and scrims. Communication between the camera and flash is now wireless and easily accomplished, either with proprietor transmitters/receivers or inexpensive radio frequency units.
This is an off-camera lighting class using the Speedlite. We will explore classic lighting techniques, filling and flagging, colour gels, and a variety of light modifiers, as well as grip equipment. Speedlite I is not a required prerequisite for this course.

DSLR Camera and lenses are required. Bring your flash gear. If you do not own a flash, one will be supplied for the first classes in order for students to make an informed decision towards the purchase of a Speedlite that best suits their needs.
